To receive ASICS socks you must pre-register. Socks not
provided to late registration entrants on april 29 and 30.

No refunds on entry fees or transferring of race numbers.
Runners not wearing the correct race number will be disqualified and asked to not
enter the race in the future.
PACKET PICKUP (no packets mailed
)
Asics Running Socks to the first 2000 who pick up their packets on Friday, April
29. To receive ASICS socks you must pre-register. Socks not provided to late registration
entrants, April 29 and 30.
Friends and relatives of entrants can pick up runner packets.
Friday 4 to 7 p.m., April 29 at Drake Fine Arts Center, Carpenter &
25th Street, adjacent to the finish area, enter via the southwest corner.
Saturday 7 to 7:30 a.m., April 30 at the Drake Fine Arts
Center (shirt size not guaranteed race day).

CHIP TIMING (times determined by start gun)
All runners will be provided a chip which must be affixed to your shoe and returned
after you finish. Failure to wear or return your chip will result in disqualification.
There is a $10 charge for chips not returned.
The gun start will be use to time all runners. The start is on a wide street.
Please line up according to pace, be fair. Faster pace runners, less than 7 minutes
per mile pace line up in the front of the start area, runners with a pace over 10
minute per mile pace line up at the back of the start area.
RACE SHIRT:
All entrants receive a great summer short sleeve 100 percent cotton shirt with a
colorful front logo. A very clean looking shirt with no sponsors on the shirt.
START: 8 AM.
Adjacent to Drake Stadium on Forest Avenue east of 28th Street. No early starts,
bikes, baby joggers, dogs, roller blades are permitted. Headphones or electronic
listening devices are permitted but discouraged for the safety of yourself and other
runners. No clothes bag drop off available.
RESTROOMS:
Alimited number of restrooms are available at the start and finish area, please plan
accordingly

8 Kilometer is 4.97 miles, the course is protected for an 11 minute pace, the finish
line closes at 9 a.m, strictly enforced! USA T&F certified course on out &
back route, mostly flat. All miles marked, splits & display clocks every mile
and 4 water stations.
HALF-MARATHON COURSE: . . . . .course map here
The Half-Marathon is 13.1 miles, the course is protected for an 11 minute pace, the
finish line closes at 10:30 a.m. USA T&F certified course with mile 3 through
11 rolling, the last two miles are flat. All miles marked, splits & display clocks
at 1, 2, 5 & 10 miles and 10 water stations. A challenging, tree lined and park
like course that runners have consistently enjoyed and considered the best Half-Marathon
course in Iowa.
FINISH:
Both the Half-Marathon and 8 Kilometer finish near 25th & Carpenter Avenue adjacent
to the Drake's Fine Arts Building (packet pickup area), two blocks from Drake Stadium.
Medical, refreshments, osteopathic treatments by Des Moines University, showers and
the awards ceremony are all near the finish.
Half-Marathon Finisher Medal (must finish under 2 1/2 hours)
All Half-Marathon runners finishing in 2 1/2 hours or less will receive a Drake Relays
On-the-ROADS Half-Marathon medal after turning in their chip at the finish area.
TEMPERATURE:
Average starting temperature 49 degrees. 2009 it rained lightly prior to the race,
cleared, was overcast and perfect morning for road racing. It rained hard in 2002
and lighter in 2006 during the race. Race day has been perfect for running 13 of
the past 15 years.
POST RACE:
8 Kilometer Awards at 9 a.m. & Half-Marathon Awards at 10 a.m. on the lawn area
just west of the finish line. Results posted instantly near the award area.
Shower facilities available 9 to 11 a.m. (free) at the Bell Center on 27th
Street north of Forest Avenue (east of the stadium), bring your own towel.

2010 RESULTS:
The weather was 62 degrees at the start for 863 half-marathon finishers and 1072
eight Kilometer finishers. Records were set in two age divisions. Look up last year's

OVERALL AWARDS:
Overall winner of the 8 Kilometer & Half Marathon, both male & female receive
special one of a kind Drake Relays sunglasses.
CASH AWARDS (open & age division - gun time):
Top open finishers of the 8 Kilometer & Half-Marathon, both male & female
receive first-$500, second-$300 and third-$150. $100 award bonus for top Iowan in
the 8 Kilometer & Half-Marathon male or female.
Age Division $100 awards will be given to the first runner beating 8 Kilometer
records or Half-Marathon records in the following age divisions.

DAY OF THE RACE INSTRUCTIONS:
Wear your own assigned race number pinned to the front of your clothing and chip
attached to your shoe. At the start, position yourself according to pace. Run on
the right side of the road, unless directed otherwise. On Polk Bvld - 8 km &
Half-Marathon runners will be split as directed
